Makeup Kitty loves her Beautyblender! It’s a must for anyone who likes to use liquid foundation. You will use less foundation by comparison with brush application. It will also give your skin a flawless, airbrushed finish. This cute little tool has a few secrets that you need to know in order to unlock its full potential.
Before using your Beautyblender, thoroughly soak it in water. It will expand considerably, nearly doubling in size. At that point, squeeze out excess water. Apply your liquid foundation to the back of your hand, then gently dab your Beautyblender into foundation.
Instead of rubbing or blending your foundation, bounce the rounded surface of your Beautyblender against your skin. Bouncing (often referred to as “stippling”) will apply your makeup seamlessly, without changing your skin or creating that dreaded “caked on” finish.
To cover any trouble spots and to apply your foundation around the nose, mouth and eyes, use Beautyblender’s pointed side. Lightly stipple and twist pointed end of the tool to hide any blemishes.
You must wash your Beautyblender after every use. You could simply use water and soap. For the most optimal, thorough cleaning, manufacturer recommends using the designated Beautyblender cleanser. We’ve tried both methods and they resulted in pretty much the same outcome.
In washing your Beautyblender, be gentle, because you don’t want to tear it up. It’s not flimsy, but still needs a tender, light touch. Don’t be obsessed with getting foundation stains out of it, because unfortunately, they’re there to stay. Just saturate the sponge with water, use some liquid cleanser (or baby shampoo) and squeeze, squeeze, squeeze. Keep running water over it and squeezing, until water runs clean. Then suspend your Beautyblender in its original plastic packaging and let it fully dry. Voila!
A word of caution: don’t leave your Beautyblender lying around if you have a curious cat in the house. Otherwise, it just might become the most expensive cat toy ever! Its mouse-like shape and soft texture will undoubtedly tempt your playful kitty.
Several brands came up with knock-offs of the Beautyblender, claiming to be their dupes. Let’s examine one of them, the SOHO Beauty Sponge.
In addition to the sponge pictured above, there is also another SOHO Beauty Sponge, shaped very much like the original Beautyblender (with the only exception of a ridge in the middle).
This is a very decent product that also expands when soaked in water. It will give a nice, clean finish to your skin. However, it’s more dense than the airy Beautyblender and therefore deposits a heavier coat of foundation. SOHO Beauty Sponge is certainly more affordable, but it’s not a 100% dupe for the original Beautyblender. The results are pretty close, but the Beautyblender produces a more natural, lighter, airbrushed-looking finish.
